Bio

Vasil Varbanov is a Bulgarian journalist and radio host, known for a number of original radio and television shows about rock and metal music, including “Zona 967”, “Krechetalo” and “Licorice”.

He was born on December 30, 1969 in Sofia. He graduated from the French High School in Sofia, and later enrolled in French Philology at Sofia University.

In the past, it was the main driving force behind the over-the-air rock radio Tangra, founded in 1992, but bought and converted into sports radio Gong in 2003. Three years later, in 2006, Varbanov created Tangra Mega Rock, which was the first Bulgarian internet radio station. He is its program director, as well as the host of the shows “MALL Varbanov”, “Tangra Metal Shock” and “Jitball” (together with Koko Stoinov and Kamen Alipiev).

Motorhead, Exploited and Slayer are among his favorite bands.

Even as a child, Varbanov started playing rugby in teams such as “BGA”, “Levski” and “Levski-Angers”. In 2002, he founded the international rugby team “Misfits” together with the New Zealander Murray James Te Huki. In 2009, he was invited by Eurosport to commentate on matches from the French Premier Rugby League.

He is the voice of the “Denis and Friends” show, which has been broadcast since April 18, 2011 on BNT 1, every weekday at 11:00 p.m.

Since the beginning of 2020, he has been the host of the “My Playlist” show on BNT 1.
